Designers who have graduated from the training programs listed in the BNO regulations automatically qualify for BNO membership. In addition to this, design agencies are eligible, if at least half of their designers have the required qualifications.

Designers and design agencies who do not meet these criteria have the opportunity to present their case – including a portfolio of their work – to the BNO’s Supervisory Board. Membership is only useful to those who have a command of the Dutch language.

The current BNO organization has resulted from merging a range of different organizations. As a consequence, the BNO has become a diverse and inspirational group of designers united in their dedication to their profession.

Our members work in the three main areas of the design industry (communication design, product design and spatial design) and in specialized sectors (including brand design; corporate design; graphic design; illustrative design; industrial design; interactive design; interior design; typeface design; fashion design and styling; jewelry and accessories design; packaging design; retail design; textile design and free design).

There is just as much variety in the members’ backgrounds, their working methods and the organizational structure of their businesses. But our members – be they one-person businesses, large international agencies or design departments within multinational companies – do all have the expertise and dedication to provide excellent design work with strong added value. They meet the stringent requirements that the BNO places on their training and work.
