Welcome WEINBENAMI

Meet Charles Weinberg, a new member and co-founder of the studio WEINBENAMI alongside Shai Ben-Ami. Together, they explore the realms of spatial and narrative design, striving to shape a better future and drive meaningful societal change.

What are you currently working on?

“I am thrilled we’re to be awarded the Talent Development Grant from Stimuleringsfonds (Creative Industries NL), a fantastic opportunity that will boost the development of our practice in the year ahead. Our development plan focuses on refining our methods and building a ‘proof of concept’ for our future projects. Over the past few months we’ve also been busy working on a new body of research exploring the collective ‘illusion of control’ and the lasting impact of World Expos in this context. We are also working on a new publication and exhibition.”

What are you most proud of?

“One of the achievements I am most proud of is the 1:1 hand-cut and built paper airplane that we managed to complete back in 2019. Our apartment began to resemble a lightweight Boeing or Airbus factory. Although the model was only physically on display for a short time, its impact and significance has endured through photographs. It has now become an emblematic piece for our practice.”

Where did you first come across us?

“We first learned about BNO during our time at the Design Academy Eindhoven, graduating in 2023. We got in touch when we submitted our graduation project ‘A Superyacht Encounter’ to the BNO’s Dd Yearbook, where it was selected as one of the most remarkable graduation projects of the year! Again thank you for including our work in the publication.”

What is the first thing we can do for you?

“The first would be to connect me with like-minded creatives and industry professionals who share an interest in exploring the intersection of narrative and spatial design, while filtering this through a critical lens. Facilitating opportunities to collaborate or showcase our work to a wider audience would also be invaluable.

Where can people see you in the near future?

“Some of our upcoming projects are yet to be revealed, but we can tell you that we recently exhibited our Superyacht installation at the Mediatine space in Brussels, as well as at an art exhibition in Paris, and it was also featured in ManAboutTown magazine last summer. The animated film of the project was screened at the Anafi International Film Festival.
