De creatieve industrie is van grote betekenis voor Nederland, maar haar positie staat onder druk. Juist nu is het belangrijk om te laten zien wat we als sector in huis hebben: het vermogen om anders te kijken en oplossingen te ontwikkelen die ook ver buiten onze eigen sector het verschil maken.
Tijdens CreativeNL Live 2026, onder de noemer Why the World Needs More Design, brengen we daarom ontwerpers, onderzoekers, bedrijven en Nederlandse en Europese beleidsmakers bij elkaar. Om nieuwe verbindingen te leggen, en een brug te slaan tussen onderzoek, praktijk, beleid en financiering.
CreativeNL Live vindt plaats op vrijdag 23 oktober van 16.30 tot 19.30 uur in het Ketelhuis in Eindhoven, tijdens Dutch Design Week. De voertaal is Engels.
Van programma naar gesprek
CreativeNL Live trapt op vrijdagmiddag het slotweekend van Dutch Design Week af. Geen formele congresmiddag, maar een laagdrempelige bijeenkomst waarin inhoud en ontmoeting samenkomen. Tijdens het korte plenaire programma staan verschillende perspectieven op de creatieve industrie en ontwerpkracht centraal. Daarna is er volop ruimte om verder te praten onder het genot van een hapje en drankje.
Why the World Needs More Design
Ontwerp heeft veel meer te bieden dan alleen de ontwikkeling van producten, diensten of visuele oplossingen. Ontwerpkracht helpt om complexe vraagstukken te doorgronden, verschillende belangen met elkaar te verbinden en nieuwe ideeën daadwerkelijk toepasbaar te maken. Daarmee speelt de ontwerpsector een belangrijke rol bij innovatie en maatschappelijke opgaven, ook ver buiten de creatieve industrie zelf.
CreativeNL Live maakt die rol zichtbaar en brengt de verschillende partijen die daarvoor nodig zijn bij elkaar. Niet om één antwoord te formuleren, maar om het gesprek te voeren over waar de creatieve industrie staat en wat zij kan bijdragen.
Why the World Needs More Design is daarmee meer dan het thema van de middag. In een snel veranderende wereld, waarin maatschappelijke opgaven groter worden en ruimte voor innovatie niet vanzelfsprekend is, groeit juist de behoefte aan mensen die anders kunnen kijken. Dat maakt ontwerpkracht niet alleen relevant, maar noodzakelijk.
Organisatie
CreativeNL Live wordt mogelijk gemaakt door de BNO, CLICKNL, ekip samen met TU Delft, en Dutch Design Foundation, met steun van het Ministerie van Economische Zaken en Klimaat.

The creative industry is of great significance to the Netherlands, but its position is under pressure. Now more than ever, it is important to showcase what we as a sector have to offer: the ability to see things differently and develop solutions that make a difference far beyond our own sector.
That’s why, during CreativeNL Live 2026, under the theme Why the World Needs More Design, we’re bringing together designers, researchers, companies, and Dutch and European policymakers. The goal is to forge new connections and build a bridge between research, practice, policy, and funding.
CreativeNL Live will take place on Friday, October 23, from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Ketelhuis in Eindhoven, during Dutch Design Week. The program will be held in English.
From Program to Conversation
CreativeNL Live kicks off the closing weekend of Dutch Design Week on Friday afternoon. It’s not a formal conference session, but an accessible gathering where content and networking come together. The plenary program focuses on different perspectives on the creative industry and the power of design. Afterward, there will be plenty of time to continue the conversation while enjoying some snacks and drinks.
Why the World Needs More Design
Design has much more to offer than just the development of products, services, or visual solutions. Design power helps us understand complex issues, reconcile differing interests, and make new ideas truly applicable. As a result, the design sector plays a vital role in innovation and addressing societal challenges, even far beyond the creative industry itself.
CreativeNL Live highlights this role and brings together the various stakeholders needed to fulfill it. Not to formulate a single answer, but to have a conversation about where the creative industry stands and what it can contribute.
Why the World Needs More Design is therefore more than just the theme of the afternoon. In a rapidly changing world, where societal challenges are growing and room for innovation is not a given, the need for people who can see things differently is actually increasing. That makes the power of design not only relevant, but essential.
