Biotopia Exhibition

The Museum of Man and Nature, located at the Nymphenburg Palace in Munich, is reinventing and expanding itself towards a museum of the future. Biotopia aims to explore, question and reconfigure the relationship between humans and other living species. For this year's "Hautnah" (Close to the Skin) exhibition, we were invited to organize, exhibit and present bio-inspired materials and projects from Europe. We brought together 15 physical samples such as root based textiles (Diana Scherer, NL), vegan leather alternatives (Ananas Anam, UK), mushroom based leather (MOGU, IT), cow stomach leathers (Billie van Katwijk, NL) and orange fiber fabrics (Orange Fiber, IT) showcased on a bionic table structure developed by Zieta Prozessdesign (PL).

Material Collection

The Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle opened it's material collection (Burg Material) in November 2015. This unique collection is an educational platform for new and unconsidered materials and technologies. One of our favorite guests was KiKA – Germany's popular children's TV channel – featuring mushroom materials in the "Earth to Future" (Erde an Zukunft) show.

It's Not Easy Being Green

It's Not Easy Being Green is a self-initiated research project by Aart van Bezooijen and Paula Raché, two designers who traveled around the world during six month offering lectures, workshops and interviews to teach and learn about the local challenges and practice of sustainability. Their discoveries from Brazil, Argentina, Chile, New Zealand, Australia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Singapore, Malaysia and Japan are gathered in their first book on sustainable design.
